I made the "Red Rooster" Flow Rope for my 13 year old son, I guessed that he would like RED and he also keeps Bantam chickens, hence the name!
It is a 14mm braid on braid (also called double braid) marine quality polyester rope supplied as a 4m cut length by Rope Locker.
This kind of yacht rope is designed to feel nice in the hand, it is also soft and hard wearing. It is very fluid and doesn't kink, take a set or stretch. Most Flow Ropes seem to be made from polyester braid on braid for these reasons.
After tying the 'stopper knots' I trimmed and sealed the ends with an HSGM Hot Knife Rope Cutter (a cigarette lighter or other safe gas flame will work, but won't be as neat) and finished them with self amalgamating tape (click LINKS for suppliers).
It weighs 0.51kg / 1.12lb. A slightly lighter 10mm or 12mm diameter rope might suit him better!
